CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management. Do a Google search for “What is a CRM?” and you’ll find many websites that answer the question for you. CRM is a system you’ve put in place to manage all your customer’s information and your interactions with them. There’s plenty more it can do as well. You can manage your email interactions, social media conversations, create quotes and invoices, automate your email marketing, manage your sales process and run reports on almost everything!
If you’re currently using a spreadsheet to keep your client information you’re really missing out on a lot. You’re also spending too much time keeping that spreadsheet updated.
Here’s an example of how a CRM could work for your business:
Your business has a website with a contact form. Once a potential customer finds your website and is interested in your product they will complete the contact form and hit submit.
This information is then automatically entered directly into your CRM platform. You now have the potential customer’s name, phone number, email and a comment from them about why they contacted you. This potential customer is called a “Lead”. Your goal is to turn this Lead into a purchasing customer. You want to be able to give them the information they need, gather their interest, provide them with a quote and hopefully they agree and buy from you. It’s a pretty straight forward process. No two buyers are the same of course. So your CRM can help you keep in touch with the customer, nurture them through email marketing campaigns and keep you informed about where they are in your sales process.
Your CRM is built to make things easier for you. It’s created to keep your business running smoothly. When a customer makes contact with you it’s really important to gather their details and stay connected with them. If you don’t stay connected you’ll lose potential customers and your business will suffer as a result. Less time fussing with customer information means more time for you to focus on your business (or your personal life).
Researching and choosing the right CRM platform can be a daunting task. Especially if you’ve never used one before. You’ll also need initial training and ongoing support for your CRM platform.
